European Congenital Heart Disease Organisation
(ECHDO)

The German Bundesverband Herzkranke Kinder e. V., the Norwegian Foreningen för hjärtesyke barn, the Swedish Hjärtebarnsföreningen and the Spanish Menudos corazones would like to unite parent organisations from all over Europe and establish a European umbrella organisation for congenital heart defects.

The goal is to link the parents’/patients’ organisations within Europe, to exchange experience and especially to involve the Eastern European countries.

The main topics of the “European Congenital Heart Disease Organisation” (ECHDO) are:

  1. Treatment within Europe for GUCHS (Grown ups with congenital heart disease),
  2. Linking and improving research on CHDs
  3. Quality control in paediatric cardiology and surgery
  4. Centres and/or networks of competence/excellence
The ceremonial founding meeting of the “European Congenital Heart Disease Organization” (ECHDO) is on 23 March 2007 in Berlin.
